Jean Tinguely

Twenty-five years after his death, the Stedelijk presents a retrospective of the work of Fribourg artist, Jean Tinguely, the largest ever presented in a Dutch museum

Curators : Barbara Til and Margriet Schademaker

With more than one hundred sculptures of machines, most of them in working order, accompanied by films, photographs and drawings, this retrospective takes the public on a chronological and thematic journey around the artist and his ideas, from his love of the absurd to his fascination with destruction and the ephemeral side of things.

For its presentation at the Stiftung Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, the exhibition displayed the first sculptures in which Tinguely imitated and brought to life the abstract paintings of artists like Malevich, Miró and Klee.
