« L’art des années 60, entre combats politiques et luttes sociales » by Yan Schubert

Yan Schubert, curator of the exhibition Années pop, années choc, 1960-1975 and curator of fine art, will present the narrative figuration movement that emerged in the 1960s in the United States and Europe.

The 1960s were a pivotal moment in the Cold War and a time of great geopolitical tension. Faced with a world divided into two antagonistic ideological blocs dominated by the United States and the Soviet Union, a new generation of artists did not hesitate to offer a critical reading of the times, from the Vietnam War to mobilisations against dictatorships and American imperialism.

In the wake of May '68, their works are committed to equality between men and women and against racial segregation in a France undergoing profound change. At the same time, she challenged the abstract currents that were dominant at the time, leading political and social struggles at the same time as consumer society continued to develop.
