3000 ans sans monnaie
Taking advantage of the presence in its rooms of a donation stela from the New Kingdom, the Musée d’art et d’histoire in Geneva offers a special themed exhibition devoted to the economic system of Pharaonic Egypt
Curator : Jean-Luc Chappaz
For the entire duration of the loan of the colossal statue of Ramses II to the Musée départemental Arles antique, of which it is one of the jewels, the Musée d'art et d'histoire was fortunate enough to host a donation stele dating from the reign of Ramses III (ca. 1184-1153 BC), a masterpiece of a complex lent to the MAH by the Fondation Gandur pour l'Art.
An opportunity for the museum to examine the specificities of the economic system in the Pharaonic era. A system based on the redistribution of wealth, from the pharaoh to the most humble of fellahs through a hierarchy of intermediaries.
