BURRI la pittura, irriducibile presenza

The exhibition BURRI la pittura, irriducibile presenza devoted to Alberto Burri (1915-1995) showcases major works by this key figure in 20th century art and is the last in a series of exhibitions and international events dedicated to him over the past year.

Commissariat : Bruno Corà

The exhibition BURRI la pittura, irriducibile presenza adopts a chronological approach to the numerous aspects of Burri's artistic work and includes masterpieces from every period in his career, from the very rare Catrami (Tars) series, begun in 1948, to Cellotex (Fibreboard), his final works dating from 1994. Around fifty pieces are presented in the exhibition, many of which have never before been on public display. They come from major Italian and international museums, the Fondazione Burri or prestigious private collections. The exhibition proposes a holistic and meaningful analysis of how this pioneer of contemporary art of the second half of the 20th century tackled the central theme underlying his entire oeuvre: the transformative use of materials, or "matter", in art. Alberto Burri's work has received increasing international attention in recent years, confirming him as one of the 20th century’s most influential artists.
