The exhibition Egypt Pluri’Elle(s): Ancient Egypt Through the Female Lens examines Egyptian society from a female perspective, spanning the Predynastic period to the end of the Greco-Roman era. Its approach is deliberately wide-ranging, addressing the social, artistic, funerary, political and religious spheres of this civilisation that endured for several millennia.

For a long time, women in Ancient Egypt were viewed primarily through the figures of queens and goddesses. Yet they fulfilled a wide variety of roles at the intersection of domestic, sacred, political and economic life. Whether as heads of households, craftswomen, priestesses, scribes or rulers, they played an integral part in the construction and functioning of pharaonic society.

This exhibition explores the world of women in Ancient Egypt through around one hundred artefacts representing the full range of available archaeological sources and drawn from renowned institutions. Moving beyond stereotypes, it reveals the diversity of statuses, roles and lived experiences of these “eternals of the Nile”. Here, the female perspective becomes not a marginal viewpoint, but an essential lens through which to better understand this fascinating and multifaceted civilisation.

The Foundation is lending 11 objects for the occasion, including statuettes of a goddess, a priestess and a concubine, as well as a female idol.
