Héros antiques. La tapisserie flamande face à l'archéologie
A dialogue between the immense tapestries of the 18th century, showcasing historical figures and Roman emperors with archaeological objects
Curator : Matteo Campagnolo
What did we know about these ancient heroes and their appearance in the seventeenth century? What message did they convey? Questions such as these open the doors to the fascinating world of these great political and military models, admired by Louis XIV and his contemporaries. The exhibition is completed by prints, books and medals, as well as a rare selection of antiques from the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art, and moulds from the University of Geneva.
