Hervé Télémaque

With 75 paintings, drawings, collages, art objects and assemblages, this retrospective is one of the largest devoted to this French artist of Haitian origin

Curators : Christian Briend assisted by Bénédicte Ajac

Exhibited first at the Centre Pompidou, this retrospective reveals all of the diversity and coherence of a demanding work and an impressive plastic force. From his New York years, where he dappled with Abstract Expressionism to his move to Paris, where he moved closer to the Surrealist group, Télémaque orchestrated the fusion of objects borrowed from consumer society and popular culture, provoking joyous visual short circuits. An enthusiast of the ‘clear line’, Télémaque’s paintings are characterized by their rich autobiographical content.
