Simon Hantaï. Par où on ne sait pas

At the end of 2019, the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art entered into a partnership with the Réunion des Musées Métropolitains Rouen Normandie (France). Each year, works from the foundation’s four collections will go on public display in the context of temporary exhibitions at the various museums of the Rouen metropolitan area. Through this new partnership, the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art is pursuing and remaining true to its mission of sharing.

CURATOR: Bertrand Dumas

The first fruit of this joint venture is the presentation at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen of six paintings by Simon Hantaï (1922-2008), a French painter of Hungarian origin.  Artworks from 1951 to 1962 were chosen to document the unremitting research carried out by the artist during this seminal decade. Once combined, they chart the course of one of the most daring artistic journeys in European painting of the second half of the 20th century.

This invitation to the heart of the 1950’s pictorial avant-garde was also an opportunity to restore the works loaned by the foundation, most of which are being shown for the very first time.
