Trônes en majesté

This exhibition of approximately forty thrones allows visitors to better understand the universality of the representation of the seat of power

Curator : Jacques Charles-Gaffiot

This exhibition sets out to present a set of thrones for the first time, both fixed and mobile, secular and sacred, from four continents, and from all eras of history. Beyond the different forms and styles, we see a universal language inscribed in each of the civilizations they evoke. Iconic seats such as the throne of King Dagobert or the Portantina (sedan chair) of Pope Leo XIII recall the fascination that thrones have exercised or continue to exercise today.
