Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Rotterdam (NL) 22 March 2026 - 25 October 2026
Yves Klein and his artist family Fred, Marie and Rotraut
From March 22 to October 25, 2026, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (Rotterdam, Netherlands) presents an exceptional exhibition bringing together the works of Yves Klein and his family: his father Fred Klein, his mother Marie Raymond, and his wife Rotraut Uecker. On this occasion, the Fondation pour l’Art is contributing by lending a work by Marie Raymond, known for her postwar abstract compositions.
Curators: Tijs Visser, Colin Huizing.
Today, the iconic monochrome paintings of Yves Klein (1928–1962) continue to hold immense appeal around the world—particularly his intensely blue monochromes, which evoke the infinite and the immateriality of space. Yet many are unaware that members of his family were also accomplished artists. Through 30 works by Yves Klein and 40 works by his parents and wife, the exhibition highlights not only the artistic exchanges within the family but also the Klein family’s connections with the Netherlands.
While his father Fred Klein (1898–1990) captivated Dutch collectors of his time with his expressive use of color and innovative visual language, his mother Marie Raymond left a lasting mark on postwar European abstraction. A painter, critic, and renowned intellectual, she built an impressive career and shared a deep artistic affinity with her son. Yves Klein’s wife, Rotraut Uecker, is also a recognized artist, known for her drawings, paintings, and sculptures inspired by nature and the cosmos.
For this occasion, the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art is lending Marie Raymond’s abstract composition Rythmes (1946).
