Partnership with the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid
In January 2015, the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid) signed an agreement (for an undetermined period) relating to the loan of works from the Foundation’s fine arts collection.
This partnership has its origins in the Museo Reina Sofía’s wish to enrich its collection of post-war European works, ranging from Art Informel to Nouveau Réalisme, coupled with the mission of the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art to make its collections accessible to the public. Thanks to this loan, certain artists are now better represented in the Museo Reina Sofía’s collections, while others are presented there for the first time.
The current selection, renewed in 2020, comprises thirteen works of various origins and inspirations. They cover the historical period that goes from the fledgling stages of Art Informel with Jean Fautrier’s Les Pommes à cidre (1943) to the emblematic creations of Nouveau Réalisme, embodied by the sculptures of César and Jean Tinguely, as well as the striking torn posters by Mimmo Rotella, François Dufrêne and Jacques Villeglé, created in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
